Beautiful basilica in a quiet part of Trastevere, on the site of the house where Saint Cecilia was martyred. Originally from the 9th century, the current building is from the 16th century using some elements of the original church. You will see amazing mosaic in the apse from the 9th century or a tombstone with the bones of St. Cecilia. Definitely do not miss the underground (paid entrance) with the foundations of an ancient house of St. Cecilia and a beautifully decorated crypt.

This is a beautiful little church in Trastevere, Rome. It has a lovely courtyard and fountain upon entering the compound. The church is generally very quiet and sparsely visited so you’ll be able to bask in its serenity better than many of the other more popular churches in Rome. The ceiling fresco is quite extraordinary and worth the visit alone. Compared to other Roman churches, this one was dingier which made it somewhat difficult to enjoy its beautiful artwork, which is its draw for most visitors. Likewise, it has less remarkable works of art than many of the other notable churches in Rome. That said, it’s worth a trip if you’re in the area and is still quite lovely.

Remarkable church, with many hidden treasures, such that I would suggest that you research these prior. This may be unusual, I believe that treasures need to be uncovered. You will also discover the opening times
