Although Google maps identifies this as a park or garden it mainly consists of a wooded hill with open grassland on the top with several footpaths. This was originally the 'pit tip' formed by waste material from Linby colliery that was planted up as part of land reclamation following the closure of the mine. The trees are well established and there is a good selection of wildlife. There are good views all around from the top of the hill.
The Ranges is a gem. You have a beautful view from the top. On a clear day, you can see Newstead Abbey. Also, you can see the Misk Hills and views into Bestwood.
Very muddy atm but still very beautiful, especially the views from where the metal effigy of Lord Byron and his dog are. Awesome views of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station and South Notts. Beautiful wildlife many different species of birds none of which are known to me lol. All in all a very nice peaceful walk.
Beautiful little gem with great views of the local countryside. Follow the signs to the Man and dog sculpture at the top of the hill.
