Beautifully preserved treasure of Roman Catholicism sandwiched in between Chinatown and the Bowery. There was one other person besides me in the sanctuary. The adjacent graveyard is great, but closed to the public.

We took the tour with Dan from Tommy’s New York and it was SO MUCH FUN. We learned about the history of the area, not just the church. Dan is such a fantastic tour guide. A perfect mix of history and comedy. I ran home to watch Gangs of New York after hearing him. And yes it’s THAT Delmonico family buried there.

My visit was part of a guided tour narrated expertly and skillfully by Dan on 11/25/20. I learned many fascinating facts about the Basilica in particular and the evolution of the Church in NYC over the centuries. Since the tour took place during the pandemic, the 6 people including the tour guide wore masks and maintained social distancing. The tour took place outdoors on the grounds, inside the church, and the catacombs. Definitely recommended.

This past weekend my fiancé and I took the candle light catacomb tour with Tommy's New York underneath the Old Cathedral. The experience was amazing and we learned so much during the hour and a half long tour. We started in the graveyard and then followed a route that eventually led us underneath and into the catacombs. I would absolutely recommend doing this as it was super unique and a great history lesson.
