PIGEON KEY IS OPEN !!!! The majority of the public is unsure if it's open or not. We were told it was closed by half of the locals and different people we talked to. It is open and the most affordable excursion in the Keys... Ok it's down right cheap!! The bridge is closed and under construction so the only way to get there is by boat. So for 12.00 for adults and even less for kids a person gets a boat ride on the Pigeon Key ferry to the island. So for 12.00 you get a boat ride there and back, use of the island if you want, a tour guide, and an enjoyable day. There's bathrooms, running water, and electricity but that's it. Pack in your food, beverages, picknic, snorkeling gear, or fishing pole and make a day of it. The shortest visit is a bit over 2 hrs or you can stay all day. The tour guide we had was C.T. Rich. The passion she has for the island and it's history is contagious. The knowledge she possess is remarkable. The story she tells is enjoyable, entertaining, and very educational. We packed our snorkeling gear and we were looking forward to getting wet, we never did though we just listened and walked around with C.T. We really enjoyed ourselves. The sad thing is right now is that most people don't understand that they are in operation. We were the only ones on the tour. I also don't think most people understand that it's all inclusive 12.00 , boat ride, tour guide, use of the island. I'm certain that it's the cheapest boat ride a person can take in the Keys. The Captains are great people as well and make you feel comfortable out and back. It's a must do. Bring your kids they will have a blast as well.
