This is a wonderful place to visit for those interested in scientific research (physics, biophysics, materials, engineering...). I visited colleagues on my last visit, but public can visit on open days. Visit their website to register. I did that the first time I went. Take comfy shoes and follow instructions: it is a working lab environment with strict health & safety regulations. Ample parking. There is a small shuttle bus from the University of Oxford (see photo for link) to this facility, but I am not sure if it takes non-University members, worth asking.

If your child is interested in anything to do with science and machines, this place is worth a visit. They regularly organise free tours. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff and on their open days, you can enjoy yummy homemade cakes.
